What this tool does
The Social Caption Formatter helps you write captions for Instagram, TikTok and other apps. It keeps your blank lines when you paste, counts characters and hashtags, and can restyle letters in bold, italic or script.
How to use it
- Type or paste your caption.
- Pick a style if you want one. You can switch styles at any time, and Normal Text brings back plain letters.
- Watch the counters: Instagram allows up to 2,200 characters and 5 hashtags.
- Press Copy & Convert and paste into the app.
Why blank lines disappear
Some apps collapse empty lines, especially in pasted text, which turns a spaced-out caption into one block. When you copy, this tool puts an invisible character, a zero-width space, on each blank line. The app sees content on the line and keeps the break. You won't see the character, but it counts as one toward the character limit.
How the bold and italic styles work
Captions can't hold real formatting, so the styles swap each letter for a look-alike from Unicode's Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols, a set of characters made for math. That's why they work almost anywhere you can paste text. Hashtags, @mentions and links stay plain, because styled letters aren't searchable or clickable.
Use styled text sparingly
Screen readers often read styled letters one at a time, such as "mathematical bold capital H", or skip them. Search inside apps may not find them either. Style a short phrase for emphasis, not the whole caption, and never style important details like prices, dates or links.
Hashtags: 5 is now the limit
Since December 2025, Instagram allows at most 5 hashtags on a post or reel; a post with more won't publish. Instagram says a few targeted hashtags work better than many generic ones.
Writing a caption that works
- Put the hook in the first line: apps cut long captions short behind a "more" link, so the opening has to earn the tap.
- Break the text into short paragraphs with blank lines; the formatter keeps them when you copy.
- Put hashtags at the end, and @mention people where it reads naturally.
- Keep styled letters for a few words, like a heading, never for names, prices or links.
Frequently asked questions
Does the tool post for me?
No. Nothing is sent anywhere; it only copies text to your clipboard.
Why does the counter differ from the app's?
Apps count some characters, like emoji, differently. Leave a little room under the limit.
Will styled letters show on every phone?
Most current phones have the fonts for them, but some older devices and apps show empty boxes instead. Another reason to keep them to a few words.
Can I use the styles on X, LinkedIn or Facebook?
Yes, they're ordinary Unicode characters and paste anywhere, with the same screen-reader caveat. On X, each styled letter counts as two characters toward the 280 limit, because X counts most characters beyond basic Latin letters as two.
