What this tool does

The Social Media Photo Resizer resizes a batch of photos to the main social media sizes at once and downloads them as a zip file. Your photos never leave your device: all the work happens in your browser.

How to use it

  1. Drag photos onto the box or click to choose them (JPG or PNG).
  2. Tick the sizes you want.
  3. Tick one or both modes.
  4. Press Process & Download Zip.

Crop or fit?

Crop to Fill zooms until the frame is full and trims what doesn't fit, which is best for photos. Fit shrinks the whole image to fit and fills the rest with black bars, which is best for graphics with text near the edges. Tick both to get both versions; each file name says which it is (for example photo-Square_IG_Post-crop.jpg).

Quality

Images are saved as high-quality JPEG (95%). Making a photo smaller keeps it sharp; making a small photo bigger can look soft, so start from the largest original you have.

A worked example: crop or fit

Take a 4000 × 3000 landscape photo (4:3) and the Stories size, 1080 × 1920 (9:16):

  • Crop to Fill scales the photo until it's 1920 pixels tall (2560 wide), then trims 740 pixels from each side. You keep the middle 42% of the width, so make sure the subject is in the center.
  • Fit scales it until it's 1080 pixels wide (810 tall) and adds black bars above and below. The whole photo shows, but small.

Tips for sharp results

  • Start from the original photo, not a screenshot or a copy saved from a social app, which has already been compressed.
  • JPEG keeps photos small, but it can soften very fine lines, such as small text in a graphic. Check those at full size.
  • Apps compress uploads again; uploading at their exact size helps avoid an extra resize on their side.

Frequently asked questions

Are my photos uploaded?

No. They're resized in your browser and never sent anywhere.

Why does a transparent PNG get a black background?

JPEG doesn't support transparency, so empty areas are filled.

Can I resize to a custom size?

Not yet. Use the suggestion box above to ask for it.

How big are the resized files?

Usually a few hundred kilobytes for a typical photo at these sizes, depending on how much detail it has.
